Before my first marathon a friend told me to make sure to put on a Swedish flag somewhere on my race gear. The audience will cheer extra for you he told me.
Immediately after the start in Marathon some 40 km from Athens I understood what he was talking about.
– You look strong Sweden!
– Excellent stride Sweden!
– Not to far now Sweden!
The encouragement gave me energy and strengthen my commitment to see this challenge through. I was far from sub3, it wasn’t on my horizon even. But one day I’ll be back in Athens. Maybe I’ll cross the finish below three hours then.
